Friendly competition recognizes 1st World Series contested between 2 schools in WAC cities
With the 2023 World Series set to begin on Friday night in Arlington between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers, the athletic departments at Grand Canyon and UT Arlington have unveiled a challenge in recognition of their hometown MLB teams.
In honor of the first-ever World Series pitting teams from cities with Western Athletic Conference member institutions, GCU Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs and UTA Director of Athletics Jon Fagg agreed on the following stipulations based on the outcome of the seven-game series:

- The losing school will re-brand its main athletics social media platform with the winning school's brand through the evening of Nov. 5.
- If the Diamondbacks win, UTA will purchase 100 tickets to the softball series at GCU when the Mavs and Lopes take on each other this coming spring. Those tickets will then be given to a Phoenix-based non-profit organization for distribution.
- If the Rangers win, GCU will purchase 100 tickets to the baseball series at UTA when the Lopes and Mavericks face off this coming spring. Those tickets will then be given to an Arlington-based non-profit organization for distribution.
