The Grand Canyon women's soccer team's season opener was suspended by weather Thursday night and will resume at 10 a.m. Friday with GCU leading Hawaii 1-0 at GCU Stadium.

The game will pick up where it was stopped in the 27th minute when nearby lightning halted action. The rainstorm and lightning did not relent, leading to the remainder of the game being pushed to Friday morning.Â
The Lopes took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when junior forward
Bekah Valdez scored on a 20-yard shot into the top left of the goal.
The GCU score was assisted by junior forward
Lindsey Prokop and redshirt freshman midfielder
Leah Pirro when Pirro made a double move to find open space and send the ball into the box to Prokop, who fed it Valdez at the top of the box.
The same storm stopped the South Dakota State game at Arizona State, where those teams also will resume play at 10 a.m. South Dakota State visits GCU on Sunday night, when ASU plays Hawaii.
