GCU executive senior associate AD chosen in group of 22 rising leaders
Grand Canyon Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director Nick Ojea was selected to participate in the NCAA 2022-23 Pathway Program for leadership development.
Ojea was one of 22 college athletics administrators selected for the NCAA's yearlong initiative. This program was created to further develop senior-level athletics administrators for their next career step as athletic directors or conference commissioners.
"The Pathway Program continues to be a signature offering that is highly impactful across the college sports landscape," said DeeDee Merritt, NCAA director of leadership development. "We are looking forward to embarking on a transformational journey with the 2022 cohort. I want to thank the Pathway selection committee for taking on the arduous task of steering an evaluation process that was filled with outstanding applicants."
Ojea began his career in GCU Athletics in July 2015 as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Administration before being promoted to his current role in September of 2018. His day-to-day administrative responsibilities include oversight of human resources, compliance, student-athlete development, sports medicine and sports performance. Ojea is also the sport administrator for women's basketball and women's volleyball.
He also serves on the WAC Medical Advisory Committee, GCU Athletics Advisory Board, GCU Diversity Council, GCU Student-Athlete Wellness Committee and as GCU Athletics' liaison to Pepsi/Gatorade and St. Joseph's Hospital/Dignity Health.
The program is designed to help cement leadership purpose and enhance skills in strategic planning, fundraising, message articulation, diversity, equity and inclusion, organizational leadership, hiring processes and engagement with search firms. The cohort will meet next week for a weeklong education session. The program will conclude next summer.
