GCU softball signee Caitlyn Wong is dominating at the plate for McLennan Community College by setting a school record with her 21st home run on Saturday.
The third baseman is hitting .649 on the season with a 1.436 slugging percentage and .728 on-base percentage for the nation's seventh-ranked junior college.
In 35 games for the Waco, Texas, school, Wong has tallied nation-leading totals for home runs (21) and RBI (64). collecting 61 hits including 11 doubles. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, native has collected 22 walks while only striking out once. She hit .481 with 17 home runs as a freshman.
Wong is part of first-year head coach
Shanon Hays' first recruiting class,
a seven-player class that signed in November.
"CC is a kid who I have had the opportunity to see play many times over last year," Hays said when Wong signed. "She is a lefty hitter who possesses really good pop off her bat. It is great to add another high-level lefty bat to our roster and she has a reputation for being one of the top juco hitters in the country. She is also a great student and person that will easily transition to GCU.
Wong said, "I chose GCU because, as soon as I stepped on campus, I knew it was the place I wanted to be for the next few years."
