Grand Canyon guard
Chance McMillian put together the first consecutive double-digit scoring games of his career to earn the latest WAC Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week award.
McMillian, a reserve from Vallejo, California, averaged 14.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 17.0 minutes per game in last week's two wins with 58.3% shooting (7 for 12) from the field, 57.1% shooting (4 for 7) from 3-point range and 100% shooting (10 for 10) from the free throw line.
The Lopes (20-7, 11-5 WAC) moved to 13-2 at GCU Arena with McMillian providing a much-needed scoring boost off the bench. Following his 13-point breakthrough performance in a Wednesday win at Chicago State, McMillian made three 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 15 points in Saturday's win against Sam Houston that tightened the conference race.
McMillian would lead the WAC in free throw shooting for overall percentage (90.9%) and conference percentage (90.0%). He is considered a freshman for athletic eligibility because of the NCAA COVID-19 waiver that he received for his first GCU season.
The Lopes returns to action against Utah Valley at 7 p.m. Thursday in GCU Arena.
