Thompson earns 1st WAC Pitcher of the Week

Oklahoma native picked up 2 wins, 1 save for Lopes
Grand Canyon junior right-hander Ariel Thompson earned her first WAC Pitcher of the Week award this season for her performance in four appearances for the Lopes.
Thompson, from Claremore, Oklahoma, had an impressive stretch on four consecutive days, beginning with earning a win over Power 5 opponent Minnesota on Thursday.
She earned her second win of the weekend against Idaho State, as she threw a seven-strikeout complete game and only gave up three runs to the Bengals. Thompson came in for relief in the Lopes' final game of the GCU Purple Classic and did not allow a hit in two innings of work, earning her first save and dropping her season ERA to 1.83.
The Lopes (8-3) are back in action on Friday when they take on Incarnate Word at 5 p.m. in the Lopes Up Classic at GCU Softball Stadium.
