Grand Canyon women's soccer junior
Gianna Gourley was named to the College Sport Communicators Academic All-America second team on Tuesday.
The GCU forward excelled on the field with a program-record 18 goals and 42 points while maintaining a 3.97 GPA as a business management major.
"What an amazing accomplishment and honor for Gianna and our entire GCU soccer family," Lopes head coach
Chris Cissell said. "She is one of our captains and is obviously a phenomenal leader on the field and in the classroom, and we are extremely proud of her."
Gourley, a team captain, was the heartbeat of the GCU offense this season, leading the WAC and finishing in the top five in the country in goals and assists. She set 10 GCU records, including career goals and points and was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year. The Las Vegas native had five multi-goal games, including a hat trick in the regular-season finale against Sam Houston while tallying a point in eight of the final night games of the season.
This is the second academic honor for Gourley as she was named to the CSC Academic All-District team on Nov. 15. By receiving the Academic All-America second-team honor, Gourley was placed among the top six forwards in the nation. She is the only WAC representative on the top two teams of Academic All-America.
