It is not just the Grand Canyon baseball fan's eye test suggesting that
Jacob Wilson looks like a national top-10 talent. The MLB Draft pundits agree.

Wilson, a junior shortstop, was ranked this month as the No. 4 draft prospect by D1Baseball and the No. 9 prospect for the 2023 draft by MLB Pipeline.
Coming off a season as a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist and a summer on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, Wilson is the top-rated college player outside of the SEC in both rankings. The slick-fielding, contact-hitting Lope also is the second-highest infielder on both rankings, trailing only Mississippi shortstop and summer teammate Jacob Gonzalez.
ESPN also tabbed Wilson as the No. 2 draft prospect in July, when he played in the Cape Cod Baseball League, and Baseball America put him at No. 12.
"He continues to prove he is one of the best players in the country, and we are so proud of all his accomplishments," GCU head coach
Gregg Wallis said after his decorated summer. "He's worked tirelessly to get to this point, and there is no end in sight."
Wilson led the nation last season for lowest strikeout frequency (seven strikeouts in 275 plate appearances) while hitting .358 with 12 home runs, 18 doubles and 65 RBIs.
His father, Jack, joined the GCU coaching staff this year and brings the experience of 12 MLB seasons, including an All-Star Game appearance, after being a ninth-round draft pick.
"To see where all these respected people have me in the future is really cool, but nothing is for sure," Jacob said this offseason. "I still have to get to work. I still have to perform. I'm going to work hard and try to get better with my teammates. I'm just going to focus on getting to another regional and even winning it and going to the College World Series."
