Knox's breakout game earns WAC frosh award

GCU forward named conference's Freshman of the Week
Grand Canyon forward Kobe Knox won his first WAC Freshman of the Week award after a career-best performance in a Lopes win on Saturday night.
Knox, the 6-foot-5 redshirt freshman from Tampa, Florida, recorded season highs for points (14) and assists (seven) while adding two steals and two rebounds against Benedictine Mesa. The Lopes outscored the Redhawks by 26 points in Knox's 25 minutes of play. He went 5 of 10 from the field, including 2-for-5 shooting on 3-pointers, and operated at point guard for several minutes.
Knox missed some offseason time for rehabilitation following a knee surgery but has begun to carve out a role as a top defender for GCU. He has two double-digit scoring games in six appearances but only had one assist this season before making seven on Saturday.
"In the second half, I thought Kobe was just tremendous," Drew said of Knox's nine-point, five-assist second half. "I thought his pace was good. He made really good decisions when to shoot and when to pass. He has great vision and great length. He can get to his spot and pass over the top of guys, which is a huge advantage when you're a bigger guard that has vision. Really pleased."
