Basketball made Grand Canyon a second home for
Alessandro Lever, but his outstanding GCU career allowed Lever to make his homeland a basketball home too.

Lever signed a contract to play for the Allianz Pallacanestro Trieste franchise in the Lega Basket Serie A, the top Italian league where fellow former Lopes star DeWayne Russell also is thriving in Treviso.
"I'm very excited and happy to finally start a new chapter in my life," Lever posted on Twitter. "I couldn't think of a better team to be starting it with than @AllianzPallTS.
"I wanted to especially thank Allesandro Romboli, who's my agent and a dear friend of mine, which in the past few months has helped me and directed me on the right path. Thank you A+ Talent Nation for helping me start my dream of becoming a professional basketball player."
Lever grew up in Bolzano, Italy, which is a 187-mile drive from Trieste, a seaport town in northeastern Italy between the Adriatic Sea and Slovenia.

Trieste plays in the Allianz Dome, a 6,943-seat venue that ought to make Lever feel at home after four seasons at perpetually full, 7,000-seat GCU Arena.
Lever finished his career as the Lopes' No. 3 scorer in history, tallying 1,629 points to only trail Bayard Forrest (2,195) and Joshua Braun (1,714). Lever became the only GCU player besides Braun to make the All-WAC first team twice and earn All-WAC honors three times.
Lever averaged at least 12 points in each GCU season and started 114 games. At the close of his career, the business management graduate was the No. 39 active career scorer in the nation as he led the Lopes to their first WAC Tournament championship and NCAA Division I tournament bid. Over the past two seasons, Lever shot 52.4% from the field and 38.0% from 3-point range.

"Alessandro is a big man with good hands who has shown that he can play away from the basket without problems, as shown by the shooting percentages," Trieste coach Franco Ciani said in a translated official franchise statement. "Defensively, he has improved in the past two years in the ability to contain smaller and faster opponents than him. This is a big who can occupy both inside spots and certainly has a great sense of position and mobility. He is an excellent guy with a great work ethic."
