The Grand Canyon softball team added catcher Neeley Bell, who is transferring from Paradise Valley Community College for the 2021 season, Lopes head coachÂ
Ann Pierson announced Tuesday.
Â
"Neeley will bring added depth and power to our lineup in 2021," Pierson said. "She is a vocal leader on the field and possesses a strong arm behind the plate. Bell can also play the infield if called upon."Â Â
Bell, who also plays third base, comes to the Lopes as a junior after two seasons at the community college level.
For the 2018-19 season, the Arizona native led Scottsdale Community College's full-season players in batting average (.365), slugging percentage (.662), home runs (11) and RBI (35).
With Paradise Valley last season, Bell hit .314 with a .571 slugging percentage, a .442 on-base percentage, two home runs, three doubles and eight RBI in 16 games. She also collected 50 putouts as the Pumas' everyday catcher.
Bell spent her prep career in nearby Scottsdale at Horizon High School, where she played four varsity seasons on four state tournament teams. She was named team Most Valuable Player as a sophomore.
