Grand Canyon senior center Asbjørn Midtgaard was named WAC Player of the Week after an efficient performance against a top Pac-12 team.
Midtgaard becomes the second Lopes player to earn the conference accolade this season after sophomore guard
Jovan Blacksher Jr. claimed the honor two weeks ago.

In Tuesday's Far West Classic loss to Colorado, Midtgaard made 8 of 9 shots from the field for 16 points to go with a team-high nine rebounds. Both stats helped GCU become the first team to shoot at least 50% from the field or outrebound the Buffaloes, who are 6-1 this season. Colorado head coach Tad Boyle called Midtgaard and senior teammate
Alessandro Lever "Pac-12-level players."
For players who have appeared in at least three games, Midtgaard leads the nation for field goal percentage at 73.8%. Overall, he ranks fifth for field goal percentage and 29th for rebounds per game at 9.9.
The 7-foot, 270-pound center is making the most of his featured role at GCU after serving as a reserve for three seasons at Wichita State. He already has more double-digit scoring games as a Lope (five) than he posted as a Shocker (three) and is averaging 16 points over the past three GCU games against Arizona State, San Francisco and Colorado.
Midtgaard played 20 or more minutes in every GCU game this season after never playing more than 20 minutes in a game at Wichita State. In seven Lopes games, the Denmark native is averaging 14.0 points in addition to his team-best 9.9 rebounding and 1.0 shot-blocking averages.
The Lopes' next action is scheduled for Jan. 8-9, when they will open WAC play at conference newcomer Tarleton in Stephenville, Texas.
