Grand Canyon softball's
Brianna Aguilar was named WAC Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. The honor is the first of the season for Aguilar and fifth of her career.
A right-hander from Tucson, Ariz., Aguilar helped the Lopes close the regular season on top and picked up each victory in GCU's 2-1 series win at Kansas City. In two appearances, she did not allow an earned run and threw her first no-hitter in an 11-0, five-inning shutout of the Roos.
Â
A single hit batter kept Aguilar from a perfect game, as the junior did not issue a walk. Ten of Aguilar's 15 outs came on ground balls, while just two UMKC batters put the ball out of the infield. The WAC leader in ERA (0.70), Aguilar held opponents to a .045 batting average on the weekend and allowed just one hit and no runs in seven innings of work.
Â
Aguilar and the third-seeded Lopes face No. 6 seed CSU Bakersfield in the first round of the WAC Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Wedneday inside GCU Softball Stadium.Â
