GCU tops No. 10 Long Beach State

Lopes split final day of regular season

The No. 15 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team closed out the regular season with a split against No. 1 UCLA and No. 10 Long Beach State in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Vs. UCLA
The Lopes (20-11) fell 5-0 to the Bruins (27-1) in its first match of the day. Freshman Anaya Evans and senior Jamie Walsh fell on Court 4, 21-16, 21-9, in the first match. On Court 1, redshirt freshman Teagan DeFalco and senior Mikaela Raudsepp dropped their match in two sets, 21-15, 21-14.

The Bruins clinched the match on Court 3, defeating freshman Katie Hess and junior Hannah Towne, 21-13, 21-11. Sophomore Bella Bauman and juior Jessica Stansfield pushed their second set to extra points on Court 1 before falling 21-6, 26-24. UCLA finished out the sweep on Court 5, taking down sophomore Taylor Jarzombek and freshman Esmee Priem, 21-17, 21-12.

Vs. Long Beach State
The Lopes finished the regular season with a 3-2 win over Long Beach State (17-8). DeFalco and Raudsepp started GCU off with a win on Court 2, taking down their opponents 21-19, 21-19. Walsh and Evans followed up with another win on Court 4, putting the Lopes ahead by two with their 21-18, 23-21 win.

The Beach got its first court win of the match on Court 1, taking down Stansfield and Bauman 21-18, 21-18. Long Beach State tied the match, taking down Hess and Towne in three sets, 23-21, 18-21, 15-12 on Court 3. Jarzombek and Priem secured the match for GCU with a 21-10, 21-13 win on Court 5.
