IRVINE, Calif. – Grand Canyon beach volleyball went 3-0 on Sunday with wins over No. 14 Stanford, Concordia and Irvine Valley College. The No. 17 Lopes swept Concordia (4-7) before taking down the host school, Irvine Valley (8-11), and upsetting Stanford (7-9). Three GCU pairings went perfect on the day to help the Lopes to an improved 13-3 record this season.
MATCH ONE
GCU started the day strong with a 5-0 sweep over Concordia. Junior

Jessica Stansfield held their opponents to only seven points in their first set, following through to earn a 21-7, 21-16 win. Senior

Esmee Priem finished out the sweep on court five, taking down Concordia 21-14, 21-13 to help secure the first win of the day.
MATCH TWO
The Lopes continued their success against Irvine Valley College, finishing 4-1 against the Lasers. Hess and Raudsepp suffered GCU's only loss of the match, falling to their opponents 21-12, 21-13. DeFalco and Towne, partnered together for the first time on court two, took down IVC in two sets, 21-12, 21-18.
Stansfield and Bauman followed up with another win on court three, finishing 21-12, 21-11 over the Lasers. Walsh and Evans also earned a win on court four, defeating their opponents 21-17, 21-14. Priem and Jarzombek held the Lasers below 10 in two sets to earn the win in the five spot, 21-8, 21-9.
MATCH THREE
GCU closed out the day with a win over No. 14 Stanford, defeating the Cardinal 4-1. Raudsepp and Hess bounced back from their loss against IVC, defeating their Stanford court one counterparts 21-11, 21-17. Towne and DeFalco fell on court two in three sets for the Lopes' only loss of the match, 21-16, 13-21, 15-13.
Bauman and Stanfield pulled through with a two-set win on court three despite the second set being pushed to extra points, finishing 21-12, 22-20 over the Cardinal to go 3-0 on the day. Walsh and Evans also finished perfect with their third win of the day, defeating Stanford 21-16, 21-18. Priem and Jarzombek earned a 21-9, 21-16 win on court five to finish 3-0 on the day and help the Lopes to their 4-1 victory over the No. 14 team.
