Lopes' junior had 5 extra-base hits, 7 RBIs
Grand Canyon junior Kona Quiggle was named WAC Hitter of the Week on Monday. The award marks the first weekly conference accolade for a Lopes player this season.
Quiggle was 8 for 19 (.421) in the week's four home games against Xavier. Spending time at first base and in left field, Quiggle picked up three doubles, a triple and a home run en route to a seven-RBI week. The junior also stole his first base of the season.
After going hitless in Wednesday's opener, Quiggle finished the week's final three games 8 for 15 with a double in each game.
In Friday's win, Quiggle hit a home run to the deepest part of the park in straightaway center over the elevated outfield wall. The three-run homer gave the Lopes a 4-1 first-inning lead that they would not relinquish.
The Phoenix native ranks in the conference's top 10 in slugging percentage (9th, .625), runs scored (t-8th, 21), RBIs (7th, 20), doubles (1st, 9) and total bases (7th, 45).
GCU is set to host Utah on Monday before opening WAC play against California Baptist over the weekend.
