M. Finke wows to win WAC award

GCU senior posts top 2 games consecutively
Grand Canyon senior Michael Finke became the first Lope to win WAC Player of the Week this season after posting his highest two scoring games of the season last week.
Finke, a 6-foot-10 power forward, recorded a scoring career high with 36 points in Thursday's overtime loss at Kansas City and followed it up with a team-high 24 points in Saturday's victory at Chicago State. Finke shot 74 percent from the field (26 of 35) over the two games and averaged 30.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists with 3-for-6 3-point shooting and 5-for-7 free throw shooting.
Finke's line of 36 points, nine rebounds and five assists at Kansas City only has been duplicated once against a Division I opponent in college basketball this season. Murray State's Ja Morant also did it but had 10 turnovers in that game while Finke did not make a turnover in 40 minutes of play.
Finke set a season high with nine rebounds on Thursday and matched a career high with five assists.
"When I'm active around the game, just not scoring, talking to my teammates, trying to make people better, it gets me going," Finke said.
