PHOENIX-The Grand Canyon men's swimming team will continue their historic season by sending
Daniil Antipov,
Mazen El Kamash,
Youssef El Kamash,
Mark Nikolaev and
Bogdan Plavin to Minneapolis from March 21-24 as they compete in the NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships for the first time in program history.
All events will be held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.Â
Nikolaev, who has been officially invited to three different individual events, will be the only GCU swimmer competing individually in Minneapolis. He will compete in the 200 yard individual medley, where he currently sits at No. 21 in the nation with a time of 1:43.60, the 100 yard backstroke which ranks No. 2 with an impressive Division I "A Cut" time of 44.71 and in the 200 yard backstroke, where Nikolaev finds himself in the Top-20 at No. 19 with a time of 1:40.81.Â
Antipov and Y. El Kamash are the first and second alternates to be invited to compete in an individual event. Antipov, awaits his fate in hopes of securing a spot in the 200 yard butterfly with his "B Cut" time of 1:42.60, while Y. El Kamash looks to land himself an entry in the 100 yard breaststroke with a "B Cut" time of 52.76.Â
Additionally, three different GCU relays have been officially invited to participate in the 200 and 400 yard medley relay and in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Antipov, M. El Kamash, Y. El Kamash and Nikolaev will compete in both the 200 yard and 400 yard medley relays.Â
According to CollegeSwimming.com, GCU sits at No. 12 in the nation in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:24.33 and No. 19 in the 400 yard medley relay with an "A Cut" time of 3:07.48.
Antipov, M. El Kamash, Nikolaev and Plavin will be representing the Lopes in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a No. 27 ranked time of 1:18.26.
