Yesenia Morrison was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. Morrison earns the first award of her career with the Lopes.
A right-hander from Grand Terrance, California, Morrison helped the Grand Canyon softball team to a midweek split with Utah last Tuesday at GCU Softball Stadium.
She earned her first complete game shutout with a 0.00 ERA in five innings over the RPI No. 34 Utes, allowing just one hit. Morrison (4-2) held the Utah offense to a .063 batting average and dished out a pair of strikeouts.
Morrison and the Lopes get back in business this weekend with the start of WAC play. GCU heads to Bakersfield, California, to face the Roadrunners in a three-game series starting Friday, March 30.
