Morrison named WAC Pitcher of the Week

Freshman earns first career award
DENVER – With her third collegiate victory in as many games, freshman pitcher Yesenia Morrison was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. Morrison earns the first award of her career with the Lopes.
A right-hander from Grand Terrance, California, Morrison helped the Grand Canyon softball team to a midweek split with Utah last Tuesday at GCU Softball Stadium.
She earned her first complete game shutout with a 0.00 ERA in five innings over the RPI No. 34 Utes, allowing just one hit. Morrison (4-2) held the Utah offense to a .063 batting average and dished out a pair of strikeouts.
Morrison and the Lopes get back in business this weekend with the start of WAC play. GCU heads to Bakersfield, California, to face the Roadrunners in a three-game series starting Friday, March 30.
