The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team continues its WAC homestand with a pair of matches this week. On Thursday night, the Lopes host CSU Bakersfield in GCU Arena. A Saturday afternoon matchup as the Lopes host Chicago State in Antelope Gym.
Last week, the Lopes (7-10, 0-5 WAC) dropped a match at California Baptist in four sets. GCU returned home and fell to Utah Valley in straight sets. Despite five losses to open WAC play, the Lopes continue to play well and are on the verge of turning the corner with only two conference matches resulting in sweeps.

CSU Bakersfield (11-7, 4-1 WAC) won four of its first five conference matches and sits in second place, just one-half game behind first-place UT Rio Grande Valley. CSUB has WAC wins over UTRGV, New Mexico State, Utah Valley and Seattle U.
The Roadrunners are led by Desiree Sukhov with 199 points while Briannah Mariner has 198 points. Sidney Wicks has a team-high 444 assists while Krista Hernandez leads CSUB with 353 digs.
Chicago State (7-14, 1-4 WAC) picked up its first Power Five win during nonconference play, defeating Rutgers at the Cal Molten Classic in Berkeley, Calif. Chicago State and GCU have faced common opponents, including the Cougars' wins against Delaware and Utah Valley.
Chicago State is led by Lauryn Dela Cruz with 238 kills. Beatriz Palmieri is next on the team with 191 kills. Lacee Adams and Ludmila Vomfim have split setting duties this year. Defensively, Megan Klavitter is one of the nation's top liberos with 5.69 digs per set.
Next week, the Lopes begin the second half of WAC action, hitting the road to face Kansas City and Chicago State.
