The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team faces a pair of WAC opponents this week. On Thursday night, the Lopes make the trip to California Baptist to take on the Lancers. GCU returns to the friendly confines of GCU Arena on Saturday to host Utah Valley.
Last week, the Lopes (7-8, 0-3 WAC) went on arguably the toughest WAC road trip and lost to UT Rio Grande Valley (25-22, 25-10, 22-25, 26-24) and New Mexico State (25-15, 25-23, 25-16).
Kaira Moss leads the Lopes with 158 points this season. The redshirt freshman middle blocker has a team-high 49 blocks. Freshman
Annabelle Kubinski has 157 points this season. She hits at a team-high .296 hitting efficiency. Freshman
K.J. Adams has served up a team-high 17 aces, while sophomore
Teagan DeFalco leads the Lopes with 264 digs.
California Baptist enters the week with an 11-5 mark and 2-2 conference record. CBU's top nonconference win came at the Stark Vegas Classic when the Lancers swept Mississippi State. In WAC play, CBU has wins over New Mexico State and Utah Valley.
CBU is led by Tesa Oaks with 253.5 points. Oaks also has a team-high 23 aces. Megan Sester is next on the squad with 189 points. Nicole Abreu has 244 digs while Sydney Marks has a team-high 57 blocks.
Utah Valley (8-9, 0-4 WAC) has lost each of its WAC matches in five sets, falling to Chicago State, Kansas City, CBU and CSU Bakersfield.
The Wolverines are led by Kazna Tarawhiti with 317.5 points. Kristen Allred adds 258.5 points and a team-high 18 aces. Seren Merrill leads UVU with 262 digs. Jasmine Niutupuivaha has a team-high 66 blocks.
Next week, the Lopes host CSU Bakersfield and Chicago State to wrap up the first half of WAC play.
