HOUSTON -- The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming teams completed the first day of competition at the WAC Championships in Houston, Texas on Wednesday.Â
The men's team currently sits in third place, trailing within 14Â points of Wyoming and the Air Force Academy in first and second, respectively. The women's team currently sits in fourth, just three points behind New Mexico State. Northern Arizona, last year's winners on the women's side, lead with 120 points, followed by Idaho with 100.Â

Mark Nikolaev and
Daniil Antipov swam to an excellent first place finish and new team record with a time of 6:24.51.

Rebecca Håkansson set a new team record in the women's 800-freestyle relay and finished in second place with a time of 7:20.63.Â
After placing seventh in the prelims for women's 3-meter diving,
Menna Elmidany finished third in the finals with a score of 279. The men's diving team also snagged a third place finish in the 1-meter with
Pietro Hufnagel Toscani scoring a 286.70 in the finals.Â
The Lopes will be back in the water for the second day of the WAC Championships on Thursday.Â
