PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team honored its senior class on Saturday in a match-up with UTRGV. The GCU senior class all saw action on the court as the Lopes dropped the final match of the year 25-11, 25-19, 25-12 to the Vaqueros.
GCU finishes the season with an 8-18 mark and 3-11 record in Western Athletic Conference action. The Lopes improved in wins in both overall and conference, and saw more consistency in challenging their opponents this season.
Shortly before first serve, the Lopes honored seniors
Myria Colley,
Hannah Hicks,
Jordyn Sanchez,
Randahl Powers,
Natalie Tardy and
Katrice Pond. All saw action in the match, including the first start of the year for Colley and the first action of the year for Pond. Sanchez started at libero with Hicks, Powers and Tardy all seeing the court.
Tardy finished the match with a team-high nine kills, raising her career total to 1,017. She sets the GCU DI record for career kills.
Teagan DeFalco added eight kills while Claire Kovensky finished with four kills. Powers also recorded multiple kills with two.
Kayla Redfield led GCU with 11 assists while DeFalco and Emma Ahern had eight digs apiece. Maria Adams and Kendall Gray had three blocks apiece.
UTRGV was led by Rani Steen Knudsen with 16 kills while Bojana Mitrovic finished with 13 kills and 12 digs.
UTRGV improves to 16-11, 10-4 WAC.
