PHOENIX – Senior
Mackenzie Phelps of the Grand Canyon beach volleyball team has been named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Division I Women's At-Large Team and will advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration to take place later this month.
She is one 10 female student-athletes in Division I chosen by CoSIDA members for the District 8 team and the only Women's At-Large Team selection from GCU.
Phelps was just named to the AVCA All-America team for the second year in a row and advanced to the semifinals of the AVCA Sand Volleyball National Championship last year with partner
Shannon Dugan. The No. 1 pair led their team to an exceptional 18-8 record for the season. Her dedication and leadership in the classroom, in the community and on the court earned her the title of Student Athlete of the Month for March 2016.
Phelps graduated from Grand Canyon University in May with a Master's of Science in Accounting, earning a perfect 4.00 as both an undergraduate and graduate student.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the country's top student-athletes for their combined outstanding performances athletically and academically. District 8 covers NCAA Division I schools in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada.
