DENVER – Grand Canyon baseball freshman
Preston Pavlica received his first two career starts in the final two games against Omaha, which GCU won both games. After seven RBI's and five hits against the Mavericks, the freshman earned his first career Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor.
Pavlica took full advantage of his first two career starts starting off with 3 RBI's in Saturday's game, March 5, against the Mavericks. Pavlica recorded two hits and drew a walk to help GCU defeat Omaha 9-4. In the final game to take the series, the freshman from Las Vegas, Nev. came up clutch with three hits, including a double, driving in four runs.
Pavlica helped spark an offense that recorded the most hits since May 3, 2015 against Seattle U. The freshman from Liberty high school also scored a run to defeat Omaha 12-4, for the team's second win in a row.
Pavlica ended the weekend with a .625 batting average and an on-base percentage of .700. Pavlica and the Lopes return to the field tomorrow, to take on San Francisco at Santa Clara University.
