PHOENIX – Grand Canyon University has named Tim Baron the new Associate Athletics Director for Facilities and Operations, Vice President for Athletics Mike Vaught announced Wednesday.
"We are really excited about the addition of Tim Baron to our leadership team," Vaught said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from an event and facility management perspective. At Grand Canyon, we strive to be Top-25 in everything that we do and Tim will be a vital piece of our team as we expand on some of the best athletic facilities in the country."
Baron comes to GCU after spending the previous nine years at San Diego State. In his role with the Lopes, Baron will organize and direct the day-to-day management of athletics facilities and event operations as it relates to university, conference and NCAA standards and regulations.
"I'd like to thank Mike Vaught and the entire Athletic Department for the opportunity to join Grand Canyon University," Baron said. "The national attention that GCU Athletics is receiving makes this a tremendously exciting time to join the Lopes team. I'm extremely eager to join the team as they are continuing to build first-class facilities, grow events on campus, and produce winning programs."
In his time with the Aztecs, Baron served in a similar role where he oversaw facility maintenance and projects for 10 facilities and practice fields for 19 teams. Baron controlled the budget for facilities, and operations, while he managed construction and capital projects, developed facility policies and controlled facility access.
A 2007 graduate of SUNY Cortland, Baron earned his bachelor of science in sport management before earning a Master of Business Administration form San Diego State in 2010 and a Master's in Construction Management from the NewSchool of Architecture and Design in 2015. He is also a member of the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association as well as the International Association of Venue Managers.
Baron will be moving to Phoenix along with his wife, Chelsea, and daughter, Isabella.
