Lopes View provides GCU's student-athletes a platform to express their lives through stories within their sport, academic studies and community outreach.
GCU student-athlete Casey Rarrick is a member of the GCU women's basketball program. Last night, the basketball season kicked off with Midnight Madness. As 7,000-plus filled GCU Arena, Rarrick wanted to personally thank the Havocs for their endless support. This is her thank you.

Waking up Friday morning I could not wait until it was 11 p.m. and to be in an arena with 7,000-plus screaming fans all in support of the basketball teams. There really is no better feeling than to have the support from a community of students who genuinely want you to succeed on the court. As my teammates and I were waiting to come down the aisles to get announced, we couldn't help but dance and get hyped along with the rest of the student body who were already dancing along with the Havocs theme song.
Not a lot of schools have a midnight madness and to be one of the few women's programs in the country that gets the opportunity to put on a show for our fans is amazing. There is nothing like the energy the Havocs bring and to see them lined up at 4 o'clock in the afternoon just to get into the arena is surreal. We never get a chance to see pregame because we are in the locker room getting ready for the game so to be in uniform with the Havocs is a feeling like no other and I hope this continues throughout the season because we are a better team when they are behind us.
Watching each one of my teammates and myself get shown in the spotlight, it gave me a glimpse into what this season has in store for us. I was very pleased with how Midnight Madness went. The electric feeling in the arena was nothing short of amazing and gave both us and the fans an idea of how season is going to be. Watching people come down on the court after it was over and ask for pictures or to just simply tell us good luck shows what kind of student body we have here at GCU. Every student in that arena was just as excited, if not more for this 2016-2017 season to begin.
There is no better feeling than to have the support from a community of students who genuinely want you to succeed on the court.
I want to thank all the fans for the support they showed last night. Every Midnight Madness keeps getting better and to walk down the steps and surrounded by the fans is a feeling I will never forget. Ultimately, Midnight Madness would not be able to be what it is if it was not for you all.
Thank you for giving the arena a feeling that no other school in the nation gets to experience. It is nights like this that makes me feel happy with the decision I made to come to GCU because no other school would have given me this opportunity.
I can't wait to get this season started with you guys cheering us on! Lopes up!
