Madison CoxHead women's soccer coach Stevie Gill has announced the addition of Madison Cox for the 2015 season. Cox comes to GCU as a transfer student-athlete from the University of Tampa.
"We are delighted that Madison has selected Grand Canyon University to call home from her countless number of suitors," said Gill. "I think Madison will fit right into our program as she is a fierce competitor, a solid student and a great kid."
The Tampa, Fla., native started 19 games for the Spartans in 2014, receiving multiple accolades during her rookie campaign. The defender, who was named a team captain as a freshman, was a Second Team All-SCC selection and Second Team Daktronics All-South Region honoree, while also being named to the Second Team of the 2014 NCAA Division II South Region Team. "Madison will make an immediate impact in our backline with her blazing speed and will strengthen our core through the middle of the park," added Gill. "We have a tremendous group of returning players this year and with our new recruits, we look forward to a fantastic year."
Cox found the back of the net six times and tallied two assists, while putting 15 shots on goal en route to helping Tampa to a 13-4-4 record a season ago.
Before joining Tampa, she was a standout two-sport athlete at Cambridge Christian School, where she was a three-time captain of the women's soccer team and competed on the track and field team. Cox was also a NSCCA Senior Excellence Award winner at Cambridge Christian.
