The Grand Canyon University sand volleyball team (5-2) swept Boise State (0-1) 5-0 tonight at the GCU Sand Volleyball Courts in Phoenix, Ariz.

"Overall, it was a great match," said head coach Jose Lugo. "We were pretty clean and calm in our play—taking our time to kind of understand how Boise State was going to play. Once they settled into that they took off."

Becca Conrad and Alex Goodman defeated Laney Hayes and Taylor Murphey to earn the Lopes first win of the match 21-16, 21-10.

"Alex Goodman and Becca played a really nice match," Lugo continued. "They were extremely clean, passed very well, and were aggressive with their serving and shot selection. They worked hard to keep Boise State off balance. I thought they had a really wonderful match."

Alex Green and Brooke Razo competed against Aly Duffin and Katelyn Kinghorn for the 21-18, 21-13 victory.

"Alex Green and Brooke are playing really well," said Lugo. "Those two are very athletic and read the game well, so they're frustrating for people to play against because people will take a big swing and then Brooke and Alex will get a dig that their opponent wasn't expecting them to get. There was a lot of exciting play and a lot of long rallies which made their match fun to watch."

To clinch the win for Grand Canyon, Kaitlynn Ausmus and Megan Glennie snagged a two-game win as the fourth pair.

The Lopes had one three game match. Emilee Erichsen and Molly Turner opened their match against Sarah Baugh and Sierra Nobley with a 21-10 win. They came up short 21-11 in the second set, but battled back for the 15-10 victory.

Closing out the sweep was GCU's number one pair, Mackenzie Phelps and Shannon Dugan who had the 21-12, 21-15 triumph.

"It was a nice opportunity to get back home after spending a couple weekends on the road," said head coach Jose Lugo. "We wanted to do some evening matches to pull in the crowd and we wound up having a great crowd come out to support us so we were really excited about that.
