The Grand Canyon men's basketball team saw its work during the season well rewarded as three players were named to All-WAC postseason teams.
DeWayne Russell highlighted the award winners, as he was named to the All-WAC Second Team and All-Newcomer Team. The 5-11 junior is averaging a team-best 14.7 points in 22 games since making his GCU debut on Dec. 13 at Indiana. Russell is averaging a team-high 33.5 minutes per game and had a stretch this season of nearly 72 minutes without committing a turnover.
Jerome Garrison earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team for the second-straight year. The senior averaged 8.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Garrison was a mainstay in the Antelopes' lineup, starting all 31 games. Garrison was an All-WAC Second Team selection in 2013-14 and currently ranks seventh on GCU's all-time scoring list with 1,263 points (13 points shy of sixth).
Joshua Braun was also named to the All-Newcomer Team after a freshman season in which he averaged 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Braun was consistent throughout the season, scoring in double figures on 18 occasions. His .466 field goal percentage ranks ninth among all WAC players.
Kansas City sophomore guard Martez Harrison was named the WAC Player of the Year.
Grand Canyon finished the regular season with a
17-14 overall mark and 8-6 in the WAC. The Lopes were 13-7 at GCU Arena.
