Grand Canyon University Vice President of Athletics Mike Vaught has announced that Stevie Gill will not return as women's head soccer coach, effective immediately. GCU has begun a nationwide search for Gill's replacement.
Â
"I want to thank Stevie Gill for his hard work and all that he has done for the Grand Canyon soccer program, as a student-athlete, assistant coach and finally as the head coach of the women's team," Vaught said. "We appreciate his dedicated support of our student-athletes as we transitioned from Division II to Division I and wish him the best moving forward."

The Lopes concluded their 2015 season last Saturday with a 0-0 tie with CSU Bakersfield at GCU Soccer Field. The Lopes finished the year with a 7-9-2 (4-4-1 WAC) record and placed fourth in the conference standings. Gill spent eight seasons on the sidelines as head coach, compiling a 64-70-13 career record and was named the 2014 WAC Coach of the Year after compiling a 7-3-0 conference record.
Â
The 2011 season was a historic year for the Gill and the women's soccer program as he took the squad to the first NCAA playoff berth in the history of the program with a Pacific West Conference record of 8-2-2. That followed up a 2010 season where the Lopes finished with an overall record of 11-5-1 (9-4-1 PacWest), and were ranked No. 9 in the West Region in both the final regular-season NCAA Division II poll and the final regular-season National Soccer Coaches Association of America vote. The 11 wins were the most in Gill's tenure as head coach.

A four-year captain of the men's soccer team, Gill graduated from GCU in May 2000 before rejoining the school as an assistant in 2003.
