Former Grand Canyon University men's basketball standout, Killian Larson, has signed his first professional contract with Lukoil Academic Sofia of the National Bulgarian League.
"This is something I truly feel blessed to have happened," said Larson. "This is a dream come true and I thank God, my wife Megan, my family and GCU for helping me realize this."
"I am proud of Killian, he worked extremely hard last year to improve his game and had an incredible season," said GCU head coach Dan Majerle. "He deserves all of the accolades and the ability to go play professionally. It just shows you what hard work and dedication can do for someone. We couldn't be prouder of Killian."
Lukoil Academic Sofia has a history of basketball excellence in the NBL, having won 12 of the previous 13 league titles. The team has once again qualified to compete in the Euroleague Championships.
Larson is projected to have two other American counterparts in the Lukoil starting five, as he is joined by Terry Smith (Mercyhurst '08) and Morris Curry (Providence '10).
"As a rookie, it is an honor to play in this league with a team the caliber of Lukoil," added Larson. "I'm excited for this opportunity and hope it is the beginning of a great professional career.
Larson was named an All-WAC First Team selection this past season and led the nation in rebounds per game (11.6) and was tied for third in all of Division I with 21 double-doubles.
Larson and his wife departed for Bulgaria today and he will soon join the team for a season that will run from October through June.
