The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has recognized 12 members of the 2013-14 Grand Canyon University softball team as All-America Scholar-Athletes for their outstanding efforts in the classroom.
"This is a perfect example of how hard these young ladies work," said head coach Ann Pierson. "They are committed to success in the classroom and know that this type of work ethic will open many doors for them after they graduate from Grand Canyon."
To be an All-America Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must hold a 3.5 GPA or higher during the academic year (2013-14). The individual recognition comes after the program recently made the NFCA Division I Top-10 All-Academic Team release, where the Lopes ranked third on the list of Division I institutions with a 3.588 team GPA.
The Antelope softball players who received the accolade were as follows:
Kelsey Barak,
Bailey Bergman, Janelle Christman,
Jenna Coates,
Kayla Henry,
Annie Jordan, Danielle Legee,
Lauren Regester, Rhyeca Riley, Kiki Sepulveda,
Haley Walker and Claire Zampini.
"I appreciate their discipline and commitment as they strive to be the best possible representatives of GCU Softball and Grand Canyon University," said Pierson. "I am so proud of them and feel so blessed to have them as a part of our program."
The Lopes open up their fall schedule this weekend and their entire 2014 fall slate can be viewed
