2013-14 Schedule
Highlighted by 13 home games, the Grand Canyon University women's basketball team announced its 2013-14 schedule today, the program's first NCAA Division I slate.
"It's great for our first Division I schedule to be able to play 29 games, have 13 at GCU Arena and a full conference schedule, not all first-year programs have that," said coach Trent May. "We're excited to have 13 home games and give our fans a chance to see our program and talent level."
The team's initial game in GCU Arena is a Nov. 2 exhibition against Eastern New Mexico. The regular season opens at home with Western State on Nov. 9.
The program's first game in the Western Athletic Conference is Jan. 2 at Texas Pan-American, while the inaugural WAC game at GCU Arena is Jan. 9 against CSU Bakersfield.
The Antelopes will host eight WAC contests, including a Feb. 20 contest against defending regular-season champ Seattle and Feb. 22 matchup with WAC tournament champ and NCAA qualifier Idaho.
GCU will also welcome Western New Mexico (Nov. 19), Hawai'i (Dec. 23) and LIU-Brooklyn (Dec. 28) in non-conference games at the arena.
On the road, the Antelopes have eight games against WAC opponents along with eight non-conference contests. The Antelopes first road trip is to Denton, Tex., to play in the North Texas Tournament (Nov. 23-26) against Jacksonville State, Abilene Christian and host North Texas, respectively.
The busy road swing continues with two yet to be determined opponents at the Gulf Coast Showcase Nov. 29-30 in Naples, Fla. On Dec. 10, GCU visits the University of Nevada. The last of the road non-conference games are Dec. 13-14 at the Warkhawk Classic in Monroe, La. GCU takes on host Louisiana Monroe Dec. 13 and either East Carolina or Alcorn State on Dec. 14.
