Kayla Henry and
Stephanie Pesqueira were named the Hawai’i Tourism Authority PacWest Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played April 8-14.
Henry, a sophomore outfielder from Tucson, hit .643 (9-for-14) during a 4-0 week for the ’Lopes. She scored eight runs, had three RBIs and was 7-for-7 in stolen bases. She had a .786 slugging percentage and .625 on-base rate. She had a triple, walk and sacrifice fly, as well.
She upped her stolen base total to 26, tying the school’s single-season record set in 2010 by both Teddy Barry and Nikki Lorenzi. She is one triple shy from tying the school single-season record for triples in a season (10), that she set last season and is only two hits away from tying the single-season record for hits (81), set by Tracy Lubken in 2009.
Pesqueira, a junior from Tempe, went 3-0 for the week, picking up a complete game victory in two starts. She also had one win in relief. In 13.2 innings, she had a 1.02 earned run average, while hitters batted just .191. She struck out eight and gave up nine hits.
She helped her cause at the plate by hitting .375 (3-for-8) with four runs scored, two doubles and two RBIs. She had a .625 slugging percentage and .444 on-base average.
It is the fourth time this season Pesqueira has won the award. She also received the award Feb. 22, Mar. 18 and Mar. 28. Henry is the second GCU player to win player of the week honors. Sophomore shortstop
