Grand Canyon’s inaugural AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball match was a 5-0 loss to No. 8 Florida International in Santa Monica, Calif., Friday.
The No. 3 team of
Caelen Hiller and
Kaitlynn Ausmus took the first set 21-16, before falling in the final two to Camila Rosado and Laura Duffy, 21-12, 15-11.
The other four GCU teams all dropped matches 2-0.
“This was a good reminder for a first-year program that we’re a work in progress, even though we’re striving to get better each day,” said GCU coach Kris Naber. “It was good to get the first match out of the way and see what we need to work on.”
Grand Canyon will take on USC and CSU Bakersfield in Los Angeles Thursday.
