The Grand Canyon University cheerleading team has announced its 2012-13 squad after hosting tryouts this past weekend.
The applicants went through a grueling audition process that evaluated their ability to learn and perfect choreography, perform stunts and a physical fitness evaluation. Candidates were also judged on personality, presence and personal recommendations.
"It is an extremely thorough selection process that we take very seriously," said head coach Emily Stephens. "We are not only looking for highly talented cheerleaders, but for young men and women that can be ambassadors for Grand Canyon University. I am more than confident that we have selected a top-notch team."
Out of 45 applicants, a program high for tryouts, 20 members were selected for the team, consisting of 12 females and eight males. The team will follow a set work-out regime during the summer and begin official practices on August 4.
Congratulations to the 2012-2013 GCU CHEERLEADING TEAM!
