The Grand Canyon University men’s basketball team defeated visiting Chaminade, 75-64, tonight at GCU Arena. With the win, the Antelopes improved to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in Pacific West Conference play, while the Silverswords are now 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The win was the eighth straight victory for the ‘Lopes, their longest since winning their final nine regular season contests in 2011-12.
GCU shot 48.1 percent for the contest (25-for-52) compared to 40.4 percent (21-for-52) for Chaminade. The ‘Lopes were aided by 26 points off the bench.
Brad Carroll, who was the high-scorer for the ‘Lopes, and
Braylon Pickrel each collected season-highs in points with 16 and 12, respectively.
Joshua Lowery and
Justin Foreman also scored in double-digits for GCU with 10 points apiece.
The ‘Lopes shot 45.2 percent (14-for-31) from the field in the first half and made seven of their eight free throw attempts. Chaminade posted a 37.5 field goal percentage (9-for-24) and were aided by a perfect mark (10-for-10) from the free throw line.
GCU scored 16 points off of 10 Silverswords turnovers and used a 19-13 rebound margin to score 16 second chance points.
The beginning of the contest was a see-saw affair that saw four lead changes and three tied scores before GCU used a 13-0 run to turn a 19-16 deficit into a 29-19 lead, which tied for their largest lead of the half.
The Silverswords made it a three-point contest with under one minute remaining in the first half, but a Carroll three-pointer just before the buzzer rang gave GCU a 38-32 advantage heading into the locker room.
GCU started off slow in the second half, but were able to extend their lead to 14 points on a number of occasions. Chaminade made it a 10-point game before the ‘Lopes gave themselves a game-high 16 point lead at 68-52 with 2:35 on the clock.
Chaminade made it a single-digit affair when they pulled within nine, 71-62, with just under one minute remaining in the contest. However, GCU held them at bay as they allowed just two more points to the Silverswords.
GCU ended up shooting 52.4 percent (11-for-21) for the half and made 12 of their 15 free throws (80.0 percent).
