The Grand Canyon University men’s basketball team picked up a key in-region win this evening, defeating UC San Diego 65-52, at the RIMAC Center in San Diego, Calif.
The win improves the Antelopes’ overall record to 3-2; the Tritons fell to 1-2.
GCU used a stifling defensive effort in the second half to outscore UCSD, 37-23, en route to the victory. Leading 45-44 with 7:26 remaining,
Brad Carroll knocked down two consecutive three’s to open a seven-point lead that the Antelopes would not relinquish.
The Antelopes held the Tritons to 36 percent shooting this evening, while forcing 12 turnovers to their four.
Joshua Lowery led the ‘Lopes with 17 points, four rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes of action. He was 11-for-13 from the line.
Braylon Pickrel finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
Blake Davis had a team-best six boards off the bench.
Grand Canyon will next be in action at the GCU Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 23 and 24 in GCU Arena. They will first face Northwest Nazarene on the Friday, with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m. GCU returns to the court on Saturday at 5 p.m., where they will play Cal State Dominguez Hills.
