The Grand Canyon University men’s basketball team fell to Utah State this evening, 76-44, in an exhibition contest at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah.
GCU was victimized by cold shooting throughout the evening, finishing with a .288 percentage (15-for-52) from the floor.
Utah State opened up a 36-22 lead at the half and led by as many as 39 in the second half.
The Antelopes’ high scorer for the evening was
Barret Robbins who finished with eight points on 4-for-5 shooting. He added three rebounds and a pair of assists.
The Division I Aggies, who were picked to finish first in Western Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, were led by Preston Medlin who had 16 points, while teammate Jarred Shaw added 15.
Tonight marked the first game in an Antelopes uniform for four GCU players. Senior transfer
Joshua Lowery started and played a team-high 24 minutes, while his brother, freshman
Jeff Lowery, played 10 minutes in his first collegiate action.
Killian Larson, who sat out all of last season due to NCAA transfer rules, scored four points and grabbed three rebounds in 17 minutes. Freshman
Camyn Boone played a solid 13 minutes and scored six points.
GCU also saw the return this evening of
Brad Carroll, who missed all but two games last season due to a knee injury. Carroll played 16 minutes and added two points.
GCU will next be in action when they host an intra-squad scrimmage on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. in Antelope Gymnasium. The event is free of charge to the public. Canyon’s second and final exhibition game will be on Nov. 5 against The Master’s College at 6:30 p.m. in GCU Arena.
