Grand Canyon University graduate assistant softball coach Katie Cochran has been selected to play for the 2011 USA Softball Women’s National Team.
The 2011 season was her first as a graduate assistant at GCU.
Cochran starred at Arizona State from 2006-09 and holds multiple single season and career hitting marks at the school. She was part of the Team USA 2010 World Championship squad, and the 2009, 2010 World Cup champions, 2009 Pan American champions and 2009 Canada Cup champions.
“The fact she’s a member of Team USA brings a lot of positive attention to our program and to GCU overall,” said Grand Canyon University softball coach Ann Pierson.
"Her success with the national team is equal to her success as a student-athlete. She has a passion for the game that is contagious and it's a blessing to have her expertise in our program. She'll have even a greater impact this coming season with a year of coaching under her belt."
Team USA begins its exhibition season this weekend against the Junior Women’s National Team in Plant City, Fla.
