Grand Canyon University senior outfielder
Teddy Barry (Glendale, AZ/Greenway, Phoenix College), the
2010 Pacific West Conference Player of the Year and 2011 PacWest Preseason Player of the Year, homered in her first two at-bats of the season as the No. 14-ranked Antelopes split their first two games in the GCU Invitational today at Quail Run Sports Complex in Mesa. GCU defeated Western New Mexico, 8-2, but lost to Cal State Monterey Bay, 5-0.
Barry went yard in the first and third innings. The 'Lopes scored two runs in the first inning, three in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth off of Mustangs starter Brianna Robles, a Mesa native and product of Mesa High School and Phoenix College. For the game, Barry went 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.
Senior first baseman
Michelle Rasmussen (Puyallup, WA/Emerald Ridge, Arizona Western College) was 1-for-3 with two RBI and freshman third baseman
Stephanie Smith (Phoenix, AZ/Sandra Day O'Connor) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Junior
Ivy Campas (Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside, Phoenix College), a 23-game winner and Second Team All-PacWest pick last season, pitched seven innings and allowed five hits and two runs, both earned. She had 10 strikeouts and four walks, and left eight base runners stranded.
The Mustangs went 27-24 overall, 23-14 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference last year and won the RMAC's West Division.
In the second game, Cal State Monterey Bay, which is unranked but received eight votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Preseason Top 25 Poll, had nine hits, including home runs from designated player Audrianna Guttierez, catcher Shae Olds and first baseman Jamie Moon.
GCU managed seven hits, two of which were for extra bases.

Kaycee Gamez (Eugene, OR/Sheldon) and senior designated player
Montana Lucas (Glendale, AZ/Cactus, Phoenix College) had two hits apiece for the 'Lopes.
The Otters, the defending California Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season champions, are the preseason favorite to capture the 2011 CCAA crown.
GCU plays Midwestern State, which went 54-10 overall, 20-2 Lone Star Conference North and advanced to the NCAA II Super Region Finals last year, at 11 a.m. tomorrow. At 1:30 p.m., the 'Lopes have a rematch with Western New Mexico. Both games are at Quail Run.
