Along with the men and women basketball players, the 2011-12 cheer and dance programs were introduced to the fans and the community last weekend at the GCU Fan Fest on Saturday, Oct. 22. The day included signing autographs, taking pictures and performing for the first time in the GCU Arena.
“The students are so fortunate to attend a school that puts on such amazing events for the fans and the community. This weekend was a great opportunity for the fans to meet the coaches and players, and check out this incredible new venue. It’s going to be a terrific year,” said dance line head coach Eva St. Arnauld.
“It was such an amazing moment getting to perform this past weekend. It was an adrenaline rush and opened our eyes to what this whole season is going to be about,” said dance member Amber LeBoeuf, co-captain of this year’s team.
Fans had an opportunity to see both the dance line and cheer team perform for the first time this season. Autograph sessions were held for fans looking to meet members from the men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as from cheer and dance.
“It was amazing to see the support for the basketball teams on Saturday, as well as the passion, dedication and determination of the athletes. Both of the cheer and dance teams have been working extremely hard and are more than prepared to pump up the fans and cheer on both teams in the new arenas,” said cheer head coach Emily Stephens.
“Seeing how excited the teams, fans and community are about this basketball season at GCU is truly amazing! It’s going to be the most memorable experience of my life,” said Lauren Butler, co-captain of this year’s cheer team.
