The Grand Canyon University cheer and dance teams were out at the GCU Run to Fight Children’s Cancer on Saturday, Oct. 15 to cheer on runners participating in the 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs.
Dance line head coach Eva St. Arnauld ran the 10k event and dancer Sara Miller, a senior in the athletic training program, ran the 5K. St. Arnauld finished the 10K in 64 minutes and Miller crossed the 5K finish line in 35 minutes.
The teams were there to support the fight against cancer and were excited to be a part of the inaugural race at Grand Canyon.
“I was so glad to be able to participate in the race for cancer. It was so great being able to support the runners and meet the cancer survivors. I think the GCU community did an amazing job coming together to support the children as well as the dedicated runners,” said Tracie Agustin, a freshman dance line member.
The teams helped hand out final awards and cheer on the runners both before the race and as they ran across the finish line. The teams had the opportunity to show their support for the survivors and walk with them during the survivor walk.
“I loved being there for all of the survivors and hearing some of their stories. They are so inspiring,” said freshman Katie Boggs. “It was great to see so many people come out to support this cause.”
