Grand Canyon finished its three-game sweep of its Pacific West Conference San Francisco Bay Area trip with an 87-47 victory over Dominican University of California at Conlan Center Saturday.
Ranked No. 12 in the nation, the Antelopes improved to 15-2 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest. They return for the first of eight consecutive games at Antelope Gymnasium Thursday against Chaminade.

Rosalyn Nelson (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley) basket broke a 10-10 tie and started a 16-2 run that saw the ‘Lopes get at least one basket each from
Maylinn Smith (Mesa, Ariz., Mesquite),
Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ, Xavier Prep) and
Jallisa Butler (Las Vegas, Nev., Cimarron, Barstow CC), as well.
“Our defense helped us create offense and we got a ton of points off transition,” said Nelson.
For Grand Canyon, Murphy led all scorers with 27 points. Nelson added 20 and Butler scored 14. Sophomore
Kim Young (Glendale, AZ, Glendale, Scottsdale CC) had a game-high nine rebounds to go with six points. Senior
Kristi Girdley (Aliso Viejo, CA, Aliso Niguel) had eight points. Nelson added four assists and seven steals.
“I’m very proud of our girls, their energy and their effort,” said coach Trent May. “It can be taxing being on the road for six days and three games. We really played well together. We played team basketball and shared the ball well tonight.”
GCU shot 55 percent (33-of-60) from the field and held Dominican to only 28.3 percent (15-of-53).
Murphy hit all five of her 3-point attempts and the ‘Lopes finished 7-of-9 (77.8 percent) from behind the arc.
“This was a good trip,” added Nelson. “We didn’t have any conference wins coming into it.”
Domincan dropped to 3-13 and 1-5 in the conference.
