The Grand Canyon University softball team won both games of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader against Chaminade University, 10-0 and 11-5, today at Stapleton-Pierson Field.
The Antelopes improved to 20-4 overall, 10-4 in the PacWest. The Silverswords fell to 13-13, 10-8.
In the first game, senior right fielder Nicki Lorenzi (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon) went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored; sophomore center fielder Kara Holtorf (Peoria, AZ/Sunrise Mountain) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored; senior designated player Tracy Lubken (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) went 1-for-1 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored (she twice was hit by pitches); junior left fielder Teddy Barry (Phoenix, AZ/Greenway) was 1-for-3 with three RBIs; and senior second baseman Gayle Nisbet (Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain) went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Senior Amy Searcy (Bixby, OK/Bixby) pitched five innings and allowed five hits and no runs, walked none and had three strikeouts. She raised her season record to 10-2.
In Game Two, Barry was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, home run, three RBIs and three runs scored; Bridges went 3-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and two runs scored; sophomore catcher Christine Jordan Norvell (Gilbert, AZ/Mesquite) was 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored; and Nisbet was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Lorenzi stole two bases.
Sophomore pitcher Ivy Campas (Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside) pitched seven innings and gave up five hits and five runs (all earned), walked one and recorded five strikeouts. Her season record now stands at 9-2.
GCU and Chaminade will play another doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon at Stapleton-Pierson Field.
