Grand Canyon University's women's basketball team is ranked second in the nation in free-throw percentage and junior guard Samantha Murphy (pictured, Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) is No. 3 in scoring.
GCU is shooting 82.1 percent from the line. Concord leads the nation at 83.5.
Junior Katrina Graham (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Mountain/Mesa CC) is ranked No. 39 in the country, the highest of GCU players that qualify for attempts. Graham has hit 21-of-24 free throws and is shooting 87.5 percent.
Murphy is averaging 23.1 points per game. Franklin Pierce's Johannah Leedham leads the country with a 26.4 scoring average.
GCU is 5-3 on the season. Its losses have come to teams with a combined record of 19-1. The 'Lopes lost a one-point game to undefeated No. 14 UC San Diego and also lost to No. 5 Alaska-Anchorage, also unbeaten. GCU owns a victory over No. 20 Seattle Pacific, giving the Falcons their only loss to date.
GCU is off until playing in the UCSD Classic Dec. 28-29. The 'Lopes take on unbeaten Western Washington (5-0) on the 28th and have a rematch with No. 20 Seattle Pacific (5-1) on the 29th. On Dec. 31, GCU takes on Metro State (4-4) in the Trip Sports Classic in Orange County, Calif. Metro State administered the only loss of the season to No. 11 Fort Lewis.
The Antelopes return to Antelope Gym Jan. 7 for the conference opener against Chaminade at 5:30 p.m.
