GCU Cross Country to Host GCU/SWC Invite

10/8/2010 7:01:38 PM | Cross Country, Women's Cross Country

Kip Mutai

Grand Canyon University and Southwestern College will co-host a men’s and women’s cross country meet at 7:45 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 9, at Evelyn Hallman Park in Tempe.

This weekend’s meet will be the largest GCU has hosted since Dr. Kim Sims became head coach four years ago. Nine schools and 151 runners -- 90 men and 61 women -- will participate. Not all of the competitors are college student-athletes, however, and several will compete unattached.

“The course is “flat and fast,” Sims said. “I’m hoping to see some great times.”

Grand Canyon junior Kipkorir Mutai (Bomet, Kenya/Kabusare, Gillette College) is the favorite to win the men’s race after an impressive finish at the ASU Invitational last Friday. His third-place finish is his best as an Antelope.

The women’s race will begin at 7:45 a.m. and the men will compete at 8:45 a.m.

Participating Schools:

Grand Canyon University

Diné College

Estrella Mountain Community College

Glendale Community College

Mesa Community College

Northern Arizona University

Pima Community College

Scottsdale Community College

Southwestern College
