Grand Canyon University won its third straight game tonight, 60-41 over Notre Dame de Namur University at Antelope Gymnasium in Phoenix.
The Antelopes improved to 9-13 overall, 3-3 in the Pacific West Conference. The Argonauts fell to 2-14, 0-5. GCU beat Notre Dame de Namur, 72-55, last Saturday in Belmont, Calif. It also defeated Academy of Art University, 62-48, on Monday in San Francisco.
The 'Lopes were led in scoring by freshman guard Brad Carroll (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol), who had 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 4-for-5 on three-pointers, and a team-high five assists. He also knocked down all four of his free throws. Junior forward Rony Tchatchoua (Little Rock, AR/Christian) went 5-for-5 from the field and scored 11 points, and tied for the team lead with two steals. GCU had nine steals in the game.
Junior forward Gaby Ngoundjo (pictured, Little Rock, AR/Christian) and sophomore forward Justin Wesolowski (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View) combined for 15 rebounds, nine of them offensive. The 'Lopes outrebounded the Argonauts, 33-23. Seventeen of their rebounds were at the offensive end.
GCU made 9 of 12 free throws in the second half (75 percent).
The 'Lopes shot 42.3 percent in the first half, including 55.6 percent from three-point range, and 47.8 percent in the second half. They led, 28-21, at halftime.
The Argonauts shot 53.3 percent in the first half, but were limited to 38.9 percent in the second period.
GCU hosts Dixie State College (11-3 overall, 5-0 in the PacWest) at 7 p.m. next Saturday at Antelope Gymnasium. It will be Homecoming for the 'Lopes.
