Richard Davis dropped five three-point field goals and had a game high 30 points to lead the Antelopes to a 78-67 win over BYU-Hawaii in Pacific West Conference men's basketball action tonight at Antelope Gymnasium.
Devon Greene added 16 and
Jason Stromvall 13 for GCU (13-7, 8-2). Lucas Alves had 17 points and 10 rebounds for BYU-Hawaii (17-7, 9-3).
In a game that had 42 fouls called, Grand Canyon went to the free-throw line 32 times, making 26 (81.3%). Davis hit 6-of-12 from the field overall, including 5-of-9 from three point range. Davis also hit all 13 of his free-throw opportunities. The solid free-throw shooting helped GCU overcome 22 turnovers in the contest. BYU-Hawaii did not help themselves with a poor shooting night, connecting on only 38% of their shots in the game.(23-of-60).
The victory was the second in as many nights for the Antelopes over the Seasiders and gave GCU a 2-1 advantage in the season series between the two teams. The win also means that GCU has moved percentage points ahead of BYU-Hawaii to take over first place in the always competitive Pacific West Conference men's basketball race.
Grand Canyon returns to Pac West Conference action on Saturday, hosting Hawaii Pacific University at 2:30 PM (MST). The game will be internet broadcast via broadband video. NCAA Division II recently partnered with CSTV on a three-year regular-season television and broadband package agreement that will showcase select Division II football and men's and women's basketball games live, beginning with coverage in 2006-07.
